It is quite beautiful and glossy on the outside and coated with a thin rubbery substance on the inside that makes it non scratchy and also very water resistant. (You often see this fabric used on luggage and backpacks.)

Waterproof (except for zippers and seams of course).
Padded on the bases and sometimes on additional pressure or bump points. Not recommended for airline travel in the luggage section. All bags have a large outside pocket with flap and zipper.
