Maid Marian Head Sash Pattern - AM-022

REQUIRES:

Yarn: 1- Skein Alpine Meadow Artisan Yarns Dew Drops Beaded Yarn

OR 1 Skein Alpine Meadow Artisan Yarns Moonbeams Sport Yarn will make 2 adult head sashes

Needles: US Size 8 knitting needle

Adult Size before blocking: 29.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide at crown.

Adult Size after blocking: 37 inches long and 3 inches wide at crown.

Gauge: Not critical. Mine was 4.5 st and 5 rows = 1 inch in seed stitch tie pattern

DIRECTIONS:

Cast on 7 stitches loosely. (Cast on 5 stitches for child size)

Tie Pattern

Row 1- K1, P1 end K1

Continue in Tie Pattern for 35 rows. (30 rows for child size.) NOTE: if you make childs size longer, you will need more than 30 yards of yarn)

Increase Rows:

Row 1: P1, K1 in 1st stitch, P1, K1 across.

Row 2: P1, K1 in 1st stitch, P1, K1 across, end P1.

Row 3: K1, P1 in 1st stitch, K1, P1 across.

Row 4: K1, P1 in 1st stitch, K1, P1 across, end K1.

You should have 11 stitches on your needle now. (9 stitches for child size)

Continue with the Tie Pattern for 5 more rows.

Crown Pattern:

Row 1: K1, *YO, K2 together * repeat between * to end. Turn

Row 2: K1, P1 across, end K1.

Row 3: *YO, K2 together * repeat between * to last stitch, K1. Turn.

Row 4: K1, P1 across, end K1.

HEADS UP: When working Row 3 starting with a yarn over: To make the Yarn Over at the beginning of the row, put the point of the left needle under the yarn from left to right, then work the Knit 2 together. Make sure you have 2 stitches on your needle and check at the end of the row to be sure you have 11 stitches.

Repeat the Crown Pattern for 14 inches, ending with Row 1 OR 3. (12 inches for child size)

Work the Tie Pattern for 5 rows.

Decrease rows:

Row 1: P2 together, K1, P1 across, end K1.

Row 2: P2 together, K1, P1 across.

Row 3: K2 together, P1, K1 across, end P1.

Row 4: K2 together, P1, K1 across.

You should have 7 stitches on your needle now. (5 stitches for child’s size)

Continue in Tie Pattern for 35 rows.

Bind off. Weave in ends. Block.

When blocking, you might want to use pins every inch on the crown part of the sash to make a semi- scalloped edge. Or use left over yarn to single crochet along the edges of the crown. Either way it is elegant.
