The Schacht Flip Loom is sturdy, compact and really easy to weave on. I can warp it up quickly and get started weaving in a hurry. The 2nd heddle blocks are already installed for weaving with 2 heddles. There is also room to use 2 heddles tied together to get double the ends per inch. The ratchets are rugged and it is easy to advance the warp. I am a multi-harness weaver but I always have a project on my Flip Loom because it is so fast and easy to weave on. The Flip Loom has given me a whole new appreciation for the simplicity of the rigid heddle loom.
Flip, Schacht's new folding rigid heddle loom, is designed for high performance, this loom folds in a jiffy for storage or transport. Weave in comfort. Choose three different weaving modes: use the rear leg for hooking the table edge, clamp it to a table for stand-up weaving, or install it on our convenient trestle stand. Warp in a flash. Included with Flip: the folding loom, are clamps and a warping peg for direct-loom warping. We include instructions for both direct and pre-measuring methods. Our top cross brace allows long warps, up to 5-6 yards (depending on weight and winding paper), to be wound on the beams without impacting the size of the shed. Fine-toothed nylon ratchets provide precise tension control. The conveniently located heddle blocks on the sides of the loom hold the rigid heddle in the up, down, or neutral position. Ratchets and Pawls are located on the outside of the loom for easier advancement of the warp. The heddle, available in 5, 8, 10 and 12 dents per inch, is made of durable ABS plastic, with large eyes and slots. Flip is ideal for plain weaves and pick-up patterns. Schacht's exclusively-designed two heddle capabilities make sense of 2-heddle weaving for the first time.
Flip is available in 15 in., 20 in., 25 in. and 30 in. weaving widths, and includes one 5, 8, 10, or 12 dent reed, warping peg, 2 stick shuttles, Cricket threading hook, and complete warping and weaving instructions. It has a danish oil finish.
Regarding the reed size, wrap your yarns around a 1 inch section of a ruler and have the yarns touching but not jammed together. Then count the number of wraps of yarn in that 1 inch section and divide by 2 to get the approximate size reed needed for a balanced weave.
