Combine a 2 ply hemp warp with 5 colors of 10/2 American Maid™ naturally colored cotton to weave 5 lovely fingertip towels (finished size approximately 13 inches x 24 inches). The hemp yarn is manufactured in Romania, and we make the American Maid™ yarns from cotton grown here in the American west, and spun in the US. When you wash the finished towels with baking soda, the color of the naturally colored cotton yarns will deepen. The green cotton is especially affected by the alkalinity of the wash water. And, the colors will deepen over time.
The towels are woven in a 4-shaft structure, and there is enough warp to weave 5 towels. Each of the towels will be a different shade of the colored cotton: white, dark brown, light brown, dark green and light green.
The towels are woven at 20 epi and will be approximately 15inches in the reed. The finished towels are approximately 13” x 24”. You should have ample warp to weave the 5 towels…you may even have enough to do an additional square or another small towel.
Each of the 10/2 American Maid™ yarn cones has approximately 400 yards on it, and is enough to weave one of the towels. The 2 ply hemp cone has at least 2250 yards on it, some of the cones will have significantly more.
